Experienced OR Nurse – Broadway Plastic Surgery/Murphy Plastic Surgery - No Weekends or Call Required
Location: Denver, CO.
Reports To: Medical Director/Operating Room Manager.
Job Type: Part-Time, Potential for Full-Time, Non-Exempt.
Position Summary:
The Operating Room (OR) Nurse at Murphy Plastic Surgery plays a vital role in the coordination and delivery of patient care during surgical procedures. This role encompasses responsibilities in pre-operative assessment, intra-operative nursing care, and post-operative recovery. The OR Nurse works closely with the surgeon, anesthesia provider, CST, and other team members to ensure patient safety, comfort, and successful surgical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Operative Care:
- Perform nursing assessments prior to surgery, including vitals, patient history, and medication review.
- Educate patients about surgical procedures, post-op expectations, and recovery plans.
- Start IVs, administer medications, and prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgery.
Intra-Operative Support:
- Monitor and document patient vitals, sedation levels, and overall condition during procedures.
- Assist the surgical team with sterile technique, supplies, and equipment as needed.
- Maintain accurate and timely intra-operative documentation in the EMR system.
Post-Operative Care:
- Monitor patients in the recovery area, assessing vitals, pain levels, and surgical sites.
- Provide discharge instructions and ensure post-op care plans are clearly communicated.
- Administer medications, manage IVs, and ensure patients meet discharge criteria.
Team Collaboration:
- Communicate clearly with surgeons, CSTs, anesthesia providers, and front office staff to coordinate smooth surgical days.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and ongoing clinical education.
- Assist with inventory management, sterilization monitoring, and equipment maintenance.
Required Qualifications:
- Current Colorado RN license in good standing.
- BLS and ACLS certification.
- Minimum 1 years of OR nursing experience. In addition to surgery, pre-op and PACU experience preferred.
- Proficiency in IV starts, medication administration, and patient education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in outpatient or plastic surgery surgical settings.
- Knowledge of Nextech or comparable EMR systems.
- Strong communication, organization, and critical thinking skills.
Working Conditions:
- On-site, part-time or full-time position with early start times on surgical days.
- NO WEEKENDS OR CALL REQUIRED.
- Requires standing for long periods and wearing surgical PPE.
